The Shear - Slip Mesh Update Method

چکیده
The Shear-Slip Mesh Update Method, designed to handle certain classes of flow problems with moving boundaries and interfaces, is presented. Specifically, we focus on problems with large but regular boundary displacements, such as straight-line translation or rotation. These motions are accommodated by using a thin layer of deforming space-time elements, together with limited remeshing without any projection at space-time slab interfaces. As examples, 2D flow around two counter-rotating squares and 3D flow past a propeller are presented.

Shear-slip Mesh Update Method: implementation and applications.
The Shear-slip Mesh Update Method (SSMUM) is being used in flow simulations involving large but regular displacements of one or more boundaries of the computational domain. We follow up the earlier discussion of the method with notes on practical implementation aspects. In order to establish a benchmark problem for this class of flow problems, we define and report results from a two-dimensional...
متن کاملShear-Slip Mesh Update in 3D Computation of Complex Flow Problems with Rotating Mechanical Components
The Shear-Slip Mesh Update Method (SSMUM) was developed for computation of flow problems with mechanical components undergoing fast translations or rotations. It complements the Deforming-Spatial-Domain/Stabilized Space-Time (DSD/SST) formulation, developed earlier for flow problems with moving boundaries and interfaces, including flows with moving mechanical components. Here, we provide an ove...
متن کاملThree Dimensional Modeling of Slip Surfaces in Geomaterials
A three-dimensional finite element implementation of a simple nonassociative Drucker-Prager plasticity model with strong discontinuity mode of localized deformation is formulated for small deformations. A strong discontinuity mode of localized deformation represents slip along a surface of zero measure, whereas a weak discontinuity mode of localized deformation represents shear within a band of...
متن کاملMesh Update Techniques for Free-Surface Flow Solvers Using Spectral Element Method
This presentation will highlight the computational techniques we are developing for simulating incompressible free-surface flows using the Spectral Element Method (SEM) [9, 10]. These techniques include the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation [2,3,5,11], mesh update and re-meshing methods [4, 7]. A brief introduction will be devoted to recalling the physical problem and its Navier-S...
متن کاملRegularity up to the Boundary for Nonlinear Elliptic Systems Arising in Time-Incremental Infinitesimal Elasto-plasticity
In this note we investigate the question of higher regularity up to the boundary for quasilinear elliptic systems which origin from the time-discretization of models from infinitesimal elasto-plasticity. Our main focus lies on an elasto-plastic Cosserat model. More specifically we show that the time discretization renders H-regularity of the displacement and H-regularity for the symmetric plast...
